In The Event Of An Earthquake
Drop-Cover-Hold: Drop to the floor. Take cover and hold on to whatever you are under. Choose a shelter or cover within 3 4 steps in preparation for the event.
Safe Cover During Earthquakes
- The best choice is to take shelter inside an exit stairwell. If that is not possible, take cover under a desk, sturdy table or piece of furniture and hold on securely. If no cover is available, crouch inside a closet or against a sturdy interior wall. Face out and bring up your knees and hands to protect your head and neck. Avoid light fixtures, bookshelves and windows.
- Do not leave cover until the high winds or extreme weather conditions have subsided.
- Proceed to the designated assembly area if directed by emergency personnel, and it is a safe place to go.
- If you require assistance to evacuate, remain where you are and wait for assistance from emergency personnel. (Make sure co-workers are aware of your location and situation.)
- If a fire occurs, activate the nearest fire alarm pull station; the system may still be functional. Follow the building’s fire evacuation procedures.
- If qualified, render first aid.
- Keep calm. Do not run outdoors. Watch for falling debris or electrical wires when leaving the building.

- Keep telephone conversations to a minimum.
